Welcome to the Trailblazer Academy FAQ! Below are answers to some of the most common questions about our programs, philosophy, and operations. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us directly.
Trailblazer Academy is an educational services provider specializing in enriching, individualized learning experiences for gifted and high-potential learners in grades 3–8. We focus on creativity, critical thinking, STEAM, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and real-world readiness through small class sizes and innovative programming.
In our Hybrid School Enrichment Program, students enroll in FLVS Flex to complete their core curriculum online. As an FLVS Voyage Lab, classes are generated specifically for our Trailblazers, ensuring consistent and direct coordination between all invested parties to promote student success and accountability. Trailblazer Academy facilitates and provides oversight, guidance, and additional enrichment programming, including hands-on, interdisciplinary modules that extend learning beyond the standard curriculum. This ensures students receive a well-rounded education in a flexible environment.
As a homeschool facilitator, Trailblazer Academy provides greater flexibility than traditional private schools, allowing families to tailor their child’s education to their unique needs and learning styles. Unlike private schools, which must adhere to specific state regulations, our program empowers families with choice, combining the freedom of homeschooling with the benefits of structured academic support, engaging enrichment activities, and a collaborative learning environment.
By choosing Trailblazer Academy, students gain the best of both worlds - a personalized education with hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, all within a supportive homeschool-friendly framework.
We currently serve students in grades 3–8. Programs are designed to meet the unique needs of this age group, focusing on both academic and personal growth.
While Trailblazer Academy is designed for gifted-level rigor, students do not need to be formally identified as gifted to enroll. We accept students who meet one or more of the following criteria: a gifted identification, a score of 4 or 5 on their most recent FAST test, or satisfactory performance on our entrance screening. Additionally, we reserve the right to decline admission to students who do not meet the entrance criteria or whose behavior poses concerns. This ensures we maintain a supportive and productive learning environment for all.
Our academy offers small student-to-adult ratios, individualized support, and a focus on enriched, project-based learning. We emphasize real-world readiness by integrating critical soft skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, STEAM, and interdisciplinary thinking into our programs. Our teachers are specialized and trained to work with gifted learners in a way that empowers them to maximize their potential. Unfortunately, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) incentivizes public schools to "teach to the test" and reactively chase school grades by targeting the lowest quartile of students, as well as certain demographic groups deemed more valuable toward the weighting of school grades. An unintended consequence of this framework is that, all too often, our gifted learners are taken for granted as easy performers, so the motivation to properly allocate resources to their enrichment is stifled by the reality that the public school system caters to the most lucrative students (i.e., not gifted). Many classrooms are left without properly trained gifted educators, leaving our gifted youth underserviced by formulaic, color-by-number curriculum tailored to the lowest-common-denominator student and intended to be deliverable by the lowest-common-denominator teacher. Trailblazer Academy aims to not only embrace, but celebrate gifted learners. The private nature of Trailblazer Academy leaves it uncorrupted by the broken incentive structure of the public school system. The teachers at Trailblazer Academy are passionate about supporting and developing our best and brightest students.
Attendance/completion requirements are driven by FLVS Flex programming. So long as a student is completing their required coursework, there is no full-time attendance requirement. This flexibility enables families the latitude to travel or have their students complete required coursework from home at their discretion. At this time, however, there is no part-time tuition program for Trailblazer Academy, as enrollment allocations are reserved and prioritized for full-time students.
Our enrichment modules are designed to inspire curiosity and creativity. Examples include STEAM challenges, coding and robotics, creative arts projects, financial literacy workshops, debates, environmental projects, and interdisciplinary design challenges.
Our Summer Enrichment Programs are immersive, hands-on learning experiences offered during summer vacation. These programs engage students in activities like building robots, designing engineering prototypes, coding, and exploring natural sciences, all within a fun and collaborative environment. After-school clubs may be focused on specialized interests, including robotics, environmental science, creative writing, and entrepreneurship. These clubs will be formed after enrollment is filled for the 2025-2026 school year.
We are located in Ormond Beach, Florida, at 2C Sunshine Blvd.

Trailblazer Academy accepts the Step Up for Students Scholarship, a state-funded program that helps families cover the cost of educational services. As a homeschool facilitator rather than a private school, families should apply for the PEP (Personalized Education Program) Scholarship, not the FTC (Florida Tax Credit) Scholarship. This scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible students, making high-quality education more accessible. For more information on how to apply, visit the Step Up for Students website or contact us for guidance.
